WHAT CAREER CLUB IS

A guided system, not a job board

Career Club is how the Institute of Product Leadership turns career clarity, evidence and interview readiness into a structured, coached process that leads to a career outcome.

Instead of updating your resume when an opportunity appears, or applying at random and hoping something works, you follow a defined path with a Career Transition Coach, measurable milestones, regular practice and visible progress.

Last year, more than 100 companies partnered with the Institute and ran Talentathons, a shark tank style approach to hiring. Members who demonstrate consistent persistence and progress against their three metrics are supported toward at least 3 job interview opportunities within 6 months, in addition to opportunities identified externally with their coach.

How the journey begins

Your Career Transition Coach helps you understand who you are professionally and what your career goals are.

1

Career Anchors and StrengthsFinder assessments clarify your strengths, motivations and the roles and environments likely to fit you, and you work with your coach to define your target direction.

2

You build a target list of 20 companies you genuinely want to work for, with at least 3 decision makers identified in each.

3

THE FRAMEWORK

Three metrics that define readiness

Everything in Career Club builds toward how visible you are in your target market and how convincingly you can demonstrate what you are capable of.

1

Personal Branding & Strategic Networking

0

Relevant connections

By the time you are ready to pursue opportunities, you should not be a stranger to your target companies. The goal is 60 relevant connections across your 20 target companies, not random LinkedIn contacts.

Publish consistently

One LinkedIn post every 15 days, giving your network visibility into your thinking and career direction.

Build your brand outside work

Start a club, lead a workstream at Startup Club or the Product Leaders Forum, or teach at a junior MBA college.

Reach out with purpose

Identify relevant people at target companies using GTM Engineering outreach techniques, tools and templates.

Build relationships, not asks

Start conversations and build rapport, such as inviting a professional to speak at an IPL session.

Turn conversations into relationships

Attend at least 5 relevant networking sessions to meet professionals and build your ecosystem.

2

Mock Interview Score

0/10

Mock score

An interview is a performance skill. You improve through repeated practice, feedback and correction, drawing on your credibility, executive presence and storytelling as much as your domain knowledge.

Practice with your coaches

Complete at least 3 one on one mock interviews scoring above 8.5 out of 10 with your Career Transition and Communication Coaches.

Practice with industry professionals

Complete at least 3 mock interviews with external hiring managers and practitioners, scoring above 8.5 out of 10.

Sharpen how you communicate

Work with your Communication Coach on product thinking, structured storytelling and confident delivery under pressure.

Progress over completion

The goal is not six completed interviews, it is performing better in month six than you did in month one.

3

Portfolio Score

0/10

Portfolio score

Telling a hiring manager what you can do is one thing. Showing them is what makes the difference. Your portfolio is the evidence behind your claims.

Build and refine your portfolio

Work with your Career Transition Coach to align your portfolio to your target role and make it interview ready.

Build proof of capability

Build proof of capability Work on real, consulting style and applied projects that give you tangible evidence, not just descriptions of what you learned.

Contribute to the product ecosystem

Participate in the Product Leaders Forum and related opportunities to demonstrate initiative beyond your immediate role.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What members ask before joining

Most executive education programs are general management programs offering broad exposure to managerial topics. The Institute focuses specifically on Product Leadership, including Product Management, Product Strategy, Product Marketing, Product Design and Product Operations. Every Career Club member is guaranteed at least 3 job interviews, sourced through companies that come to campus via Talentathon programs and through external companies on your target list. This confidence comes from the thousands who have transitioned successfully through the program’s Career Club and Career Assistance Platform, combined with strong ongoing demand for niche Product Leadership skills. There are no fine prints. You will be prepared to crack the interviews, and you will get access to a minimum of 3 shortlisted job interviews. Not every member is seeking an immediate transition, some are pursuing entrepreneurship or promotion within their current industry, but if transition is your goal and you follow the Career Club path with persistence and progress, the guarantee holds.

You choose them together with your Career Transition Coach. Your 20 target companies come out of your career direction and target role conversations, so they stay aligned to where you genuinely want to go rather than being a generic list.

Your coach reviews where you are and helps you adjust your plan. The objective is not to tick a box by a particular date, it is to keep working on the activity until you reach the required level of readiness.

They are experienced hiring managers and industry practitioners from outside IPL who bring an external, real world perspective to your interview preparation.

That is okay. The Product Leaders Forum and other ecosystem opportunities give you ways to start contributing during your Career Club journey. You do not need to arrive with an existing record of community contribution.

Enough to keep your three metrics moving. This includes maintaining your LinkedIn presence, targeted outreach, networking, coaching sessions, portfolio work and scheduled mock interviews. Your coach helps you pace these alongside your academic commitments.

You move into the active phase of Career Club, where you begin pursuing opportunities with your target companies. Your coaches continue to support you as you apply, interview and navigate the process.

Career Club is designed to create 3 relevant interview opportunities for you within 6 months. The program provides the opportunities and prepares you to make the most of them, but converting those opportunities into offers ultimately depends on your skills, abilities and interview performance. Career Club’s role is to make sure you are as prepared and interview ready as possible when those opportunities arise through Talentathon.

Because a focused career search is more effective than applying everywhere. Twenty companies give you a defined ecosystem to research, understand, network within and pursue strategically.

Because the objective is to build a meaningful professional network around your career goal. The number is not about accumulating followers or sending random connection requests, it is about building relevant relationships across your target career ecosystem.

Build your evidence, not just your resume

Work with a Career Transition Coach to define your direction, build your network and become interview ready within 6 months.
