Skillathon: StartUp Pitches at the Institute of Product Leadership

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Solving real world problems is at the crux of IPL’s ‘Skillathon’ initiative. The cohort of the Institute of Product Leadership live by this motto. The last two weekends witnessed a clash of titans at a unique skill hackathon at IPL’s Whitefield campus, Bengaluru. Applying theoretical concepts to real-world ideas of the product world is not easy. The cohort did it with flair and panache, wowing the live jury, which consisted of alumni members and industry experts. The first skillathon of the season on 23rd February was around  Product Storytelling – in a ‘Shark Tank’ like elevator pitch scenario. 8 startup ideas were presented to 4 industry investors and mentors from the startup ecosystem in Bangalore. The EMBA Class of 2017 C, presented their product ideas. The winning team was ‘Suruss’, led by Kumar Gaurav, Rahul Wagh and Rajshekhar Janaswamy. Their product idea revolved around packaged drinking water in natural flavors. The innovative idea, the visual storytelling and the crisp presentation was the USP of Team ‘Surus’ attracting investors interest.
User Experience/ User Interface design was the focus of the second skillathon on 3rd March. The cohort presented 10 ideas – the jury chose 4 ideas and the winning product idea was – ‘Zodog’ -a user-friendly way to order food and pet treats for dogs. The winning team comprised of Sathya Prasad, Praveen Cherakkara, Subodh Kar, Lalitha Maruthachalam and Kamal Arora.
