Product management in India is undergoing a massive transformation. Hiring for product roles has surged by 42 percent in 2025, and the bigger story is how opportunities are evolving across companies and career levels.

At the Institute of Product Leadership (IPL), we do not track these changes from the outside. We see them play out directly at our hiring events. Between January and August 2025, more than 110 structured hiring drives took place on our campus through the Career Assistance Platform. Companies such as Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, PayPal, Bosch, Lowe’s, Tata Elxsi, Citrix, Amadeus, Licious, TVS Electronics, and many more engaged with candidates, conducted assessments, and made real job offers.

The Product Management Hiring Trends Report 2025 is built on this activity, making it one of the most accurate reflections of India’s product management job market today.

IPL Hiring Data Shows a Clear Shift

Institute of Product Leadership’s hiring events show a clear rise in demand, with a 42 percent year-on-year increase in overall hiring. The steepest growth is happening at the senior and leadership levels.

    • Senior roles grew by 87 percent
    • Junior roles grew by 16 percent
    • Leadership salaries now cross ₹75 lakh per annum.

Salary benchmarks collected at IPL highlight how experience shapes value:

    • Junior product managers earn between ₹10–15 lakh per annum
    • Senior professionals begin at ₹40 lakh and above
    • Leadership positions exceed ₹75 lakh

Mid-Size Firms and MNCs Take the Lead in Hiring

One of the clearest patterns visible through IPL’s hiring drives is the change in who is doing the hiring.

    • Startups showed a 58 percent decline in junior positions and a 33 percent decline in senior roles.
    • Mid-sized companies recorded a 243 percent increase in junior hiring and a 150 percent increase in senior hiring.
    • Multinational corporations recorded a 255 percent increase in senior hiring.

This shift has redrawn the career map. Startups are no longer the default entry point. Mid-sized firms are now the launchpad for growth at junior and mid-levels, while multinational corporations have become the clear destination for senior professionals aiming for leadership roles.

Employers Raise the Bar at IPL Hiring Events

By reviewing more than 30 job descriptions and 20 live case challenges shared by employers at IPL, a consistent pattern of expectations emerges.

    • Core product management skills such as research, roadmap planning, and go-to-market execution remain essential.
    • Technical fluency with tools, stacks, and data analysis has become a baseline requirement
    • A data-driven mindset is now expected by default.
    • Soft skills like communication, customer empathy, and market insight remain important, but the true differentiator lies in combining product, technology, and data expertise.

These are not assumptions. They are the skills companies tested and evaluated during IPL’s campus hiring engagements.
